A traditional favourite here in South-east Asia, the ang ku kueh. A gleaming red sweet pastry, lying atop a pandan leaf. The Chinese character 寿, which means longevity, sits in the middle of the kueh.

Another name would be red tortoise cakes, for its likeness to the tortoise's shell. As tortoises symbolise longevity, good fortune and all things good to us Chinese, these pastries are meant to bring the same blessings for whoever eats them too. In this case, whoever wears these miniature replicas. ;)

Ang ku kuehs are popularly served at important cultural festivals of the Chinese, such as newborn's first month or an elderly's birthday. So it would be pretty apt to gift this to a new mother, or to show your love for your grandma/pa. :)
